AbstractThis paper describes a new research program aimed at investigating the performance and energy-conservation potential of different types of conventional and electronically-ballasted compact fluorescent lighting systems under a range of environmental conditions. Participants include key lighting and electrical research laboratories from Canada, the U.S.A. and the United Kingdom. The research team will conduct laboratory and field investigations of lighting efficiency, reliability, and both thermal and power quality considerations. The results will help electrical utilities, government bodies, manufacturers, consumers and other more effectively judge the benefits of compact fluorescent technology in energy conservation programs.
