AbstractPhotolysis of N-(diphenylmethylene)methylthiomethylamine N-oxide, Ph 2C=N(→-O)CH2SCH3, yields bis(methylthiomethyl) nitroxide, (CH3SCH2)2NO, rather than, as previously reported, the diphenylmethylene(methylene)-amine N-oxyl radical, [Ph2C⋯N(⋯O)⋯CH2]. The e.s.r. spectrum of (CH3SCH2)2NO shows an alternating line width effect at ambient and lower temperatures.
