AbstractIn dynamic analysis of structures, engineers use simulation tools, often laborious, before carrying out the structural dimensioning. In this study, generic models (established on the basis of experimental design theory) are proposed for a fast evaluation of the seismic response in the project preliminary phase: a simulation campaign, on buildings of rectangular form, is carried out to study the influence of a set of parameters over the proper period of the structure, and consequently, on the efforts generated by the seismic action. These simplified models represent in an acceptable way the response surface (R2 = 65%) and show a good predictive character as represented by a variation (between the actual values and those predicted) lower than 5% for the period and 15% for the efforts.
