AbstractThe complete set of Laplace transfer functions that relate temperature and heat flux at any plane in a wall to boundary conditions are presented. Transfer functions are also presented relating surface fluxes to surface temperatures and vice versa. The principal point of the paper is the application of z-transform techniques to transient heat conduction problems. A method is given for finding the z- transfer functions (pulse transfer functions) that correspond to the various Laplace transfer functions and for selecting the largest time interval for the z-transfer function that is consistent with a specified accuracy over a given range of frequency.
