AbstractThe angular distribution of the lower frequency modes in a rectangular room is calculated for various room dimensions. Applying the results to reverberation room measurements, it is shown that a sample placed with its surface normal to a long dimension of the room experiences the most diffuse field. Various methods are proposed to modify the existing techniques of absorption measurement, where it usually happens that the sample is placed with its surface normal to the shortest asis, thus experiencing the least diffuse field.
