AbstractThe National Research Council of Canada's new Institute for Marine Dynamics (IMD) is described. The major facilities are: refrigerated model basin (ice tank), clearwater towing tank, seakeeping tank, cavitation tunnel, model preparation workshop and computing facilities and library. The research program and examples of industry collaboration are outlined with emphasis on those aspects relevant to Polar Transportation.
