AbstractStrain measurements were made on the deck beams and some other parts of the temporary steel structures of the street deck used during the construction, by the cut-and-cover method, of the Yonge Street Subway in Toronto, Canada. The results of measurements on the various deck beams are presented. The investigation included both normal traffic loads and heavy load combinations. The maximum values of stresses and the frequency of occurrence of loads are discussed, with a view to improvement in similar designs which may be used in the future.
