AbstractMultizone airflow models provide useful tools for designer to predict and control the air and contaminant distributions in large buildings. Over fifty multizone airflow models have been developed. After a literature review, three well-known multizone models, BREEZE, COMIS and CONTAM, were selected and compared in this study to provide users with more detailed information. All three programmes use similar fundamental including flow equations for paths and algorithm used for solving the equations, and are able to simulate air and contaminant transport in large buildings. However, it is found that the three models differ considerably in interfaces provided for input/output and simulation timing. As a test case, the three models were used to predict the air and contaminant distributions in a five-storey apartment building with 65 zones and 211 paths. The three models predicted the same results. The comparisons were also made between the model predictions and field measurements. The model predictions agree well with the measurements.
