AbstractWhen an attosecond X-ray pulse ionizes atoms in a strong laser field, the field deflects the emitted photoelectrons. This deflection depends on the phase of the laser field. We will show how this effect can be used to characterize ionizing X-ray pulses that have shorter duration than the oscillation period of the laser field.
