AbstractVarious aspects of the mechanism of heat flow through roofs are reviewed, including heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation. Units of heat flow, heating degree-days, heating plant efficiency and thermal upgrading are discussed, as well as the cost of insulation and the optimal thermal resistance for various roof systems.
