Abstract"T.T.W." (through-the-wall) bricks are designed to provide a single-wythe wall, in contrast to traditional contruction of a facing wythe backed with additional wythes of brick, block or tile. T.T.W. bricks are not new, but have come into extensive recent use in Canada because thin, single-wythe walls possess useful structural properties. The development of T.T.W. brick construction, the weather resistance and dimensional stability of T.T.W. brick walls, and problems of quality control of structural walls of this type are reviewed.
