AbstractWith its very high strength, high modulus and very low permeability, ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) can provide major improvements over conventional high performance concrete (HPC) in terms of structural efficiency, durability and cost-effectiveness if used in the construction of slab-on-precast prestressed girder bridges. In this study, the optimum use of UHPC is evaluated for the case of simply supported cast in place concrete slab on precast/prestressed UHPC girder bridges. These bridges are designed according to the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code requirements, including no cracking at the serviceability limit state.
