AbstractIn a recent paper, some calculations were presented of the effective absorption coefficient of a small area of sound absorbing material set in an otherwise reflecting surface. The results have bearing particularly on the standard reverberation-chamber method for measuring the sound absorption coefficients of materials. The published results were primarily for illustration, in a discussion of reverberation chamber measurements, this note, prepared for potential users of the calculations, presents the complete set in a more usable form than was possible in publication.
