AbstractThis report presents a state-of-the-art literature survey on the behaviour of steel structures in fire. The use of steel in building construction, its advantages and disadvantages, its behaviour when exposed to fire and the factors affecting this behaviour is presented. Various research studies conducted using experimental and analytical techniques to determine the overall behaviour of steel structures in fire are reviewed. Conclusions derived from these studies are given. Computer programs developed to study the various parameters affecting the overall behaviour of steel structures in fire are presented.
