AbstractThree significant sources of statistical data on sprinkler system performance are assessed and reasons for failures are analyzed. Methods of reducing the incidence of failure are suggested that lead to a theoretical performance above 99%. Full-scale fire tests indicate that sprinkler systems provide protection by maintaining safe temperatures on structural steel members.
