AbstractLeda clay, the soil used in this study, is of post-glacial origin and is found extensively as a surficial deposit along the St. Lawrence and Ottawa River and their tributaries. Some recent comparisons of the mechanical analyses results for Leda clay between laboratories using different procedures have shown that considerable inconsistencies exist. For this reason a technique and a modification of a pipette method used at the Soil Research Institute, Canadian Department of Agriculture, was included in this preliminary study, which is otherwise devoted particularly to pretreatment effects.
