AbstractThis Echos techniques covers four topics: rain penetration in exterior walls, a new IRC web site on masonry, the floor joist space used as return air duct in wood-frame houses and the Proceedings of the 8DBMC conference. The main topic, rain penetration in exterior walls, describes current design approaches to rain penetration control as well as some IRC research results on rain penetration into a precast concrete sandwich panel wall assembly subjected to simulated wind-driven rain in IRC Dynamic wall testing facility. Results indicate that minimal amount of water enters the wall assembly when it is configured as a pressure-equalized system.
