AbstractThis paper presents some results of a research project that investigated the hygrothermal performance of the Canadian wood-frame exterior building envelope construction practices in Shanghai and Beijing (China) and Taichung (Taiwan). The study used a two-dimensional hygrothermal simulation tool, hygIRC-2D. Four exterior walls and two roof constructions were exposed to Shanghai climatic conditions. Simulations were conducted on walls that had no air leakage and various levels of air leakage. The outputs from the simulations were analyzed with the help of a moisture response indicator called RHT index. Results indicate the relative performances and suitability of the different wall and roof assemblies in Shanghai.
