AbstractThe thermal performance of three vertical heat exchangers is investigated using numerical and experimental means at operating temperatures ranging from +6 degrees C to -7 degrees C. Numerical finite-element results are compared to the actual performance of full-scale heat exchangers. Overall results indicate that a highly efficient vertical heat exchanger can be developed. Provided that reasonable manufacturing costs can be achieved, this could mean a potential breakthrough for ground-coupled heat pumps.
