AbstractSo that the limited funds available for bridge upgrading can be spent in the most effective manner, the reliability index assumed for evaluation of existing bridges requires a closer definition than that assumed for the design of new bridges. A reliability index which varies between 2.0 and 3.75 is determined for bridge evaluation in Clause 12 of CAN/CSA-S6-88
