AbstractThis Digest discusses the nature of the heating and cooling requirements for buildings; how they depend upon climate, occupancy, and to a large extent the design of the building. The complexity of the air conditioning system, and both its initial and operating cost, depend on the nature of these loads. The building designer should take account of the interdependence of the building and the air conditioning system in order to arrive at an optimum over- all design.
