AbstractTricalcium silicate, bottle-hydrated tricalcium silicate and calcium hydroxide were each treated with 0.015-1.0% calcium lignosulfonate (CLS) using water or dimethyl sulfoxide. At low CLS concentrations C[3]S hydrates and irreversibly adsorbs CLS. At concentrations beyond about 0.25-0.35% the hydration of C[3]S is inhibited. Bottle-hydrated C[3]S adsorbs CLS irreversibly in both the aqueous and the non- aqueous media. The CH phase also irreversibly adsorbs CLS. Dispersion and the formation of basic CLS are indicated.
