AbstractA parametric study on the direct sound transmission through lightweight floors was conducted. Parameters changed involved the framing members, ceiling mounting and thickness, and floor topping. This paper presents the effect of these changes on several different standard sources: airborne and light impact (according to ISO 140 parts 3 & 7 respectively) and two heavy impactors, the ball and bang machine (according to JIS A 1418-2). It is found that the changes to the specimen have very similar effects on the sound insulation for all sources except the Bang machine. The different effect is due to the extreme forces the bang machine exerts on the floor-ceiling system driving it into non-linear regions.
