AbstractThe ability of Cape Island-type boats to survive swamping of the deck in rough seas is the subject of the presented study, which is carried out at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) in Halifax. The study consists of model tests, full scale trials, and time-domain simulations of motions with and without water trapped on deck. The paper outlines the time-domain software developed, results of its validation, description of the wave conditions in the area of operation and some preliminary results.
