AbstractThe factors affecting the inside surface-temperature or condensation performance of metal-framed double windows in cold weather are discussed. The thermal performance of a number of idealized double windows was investigated in laboratory tests and the results are presented. The thermal performances of double windows with solid frame members of aluminum, stainless steel and polystyrene are compared, and the condensation performance of an aluminum double window with a number of different "thermal-break" arrangements are described. A set of design recommendations for metal-framed windows is given, based on the results of the laboratory investigation.
