AbstractThis papers outlines the methodology used to develop computer simulation skylight design tools for thermal and energy performance for atriums in cold climates. The methodology identified important design alternatives that included skylight and atrium physical variables, and a series of thermal and energy performance outputs that may serve as selection criteria for an energy-efficient design. New prediction models were developed to deal with airflow between an atrium and its adjacent spaces, and temperature stratification within an atrium space.
