AbstractThienyl monolayers covalently bonded to a Si(111) surface were prepared by a wet chemical process in which a Si(111)-H surface was brominated to form Si(111)-Br and further reacted with lithiated thiophenes. Both N-bromosuccinimide and bromochloroform were found to be effective brominating reagents. The derivatized Si(111) surfaces were characterized by XPS, AES, ATR-FTIR and NEXAFS.
