AbstractThis article discusses standards relating to snow loads, which are of vital importance to all proper roof design. Although the authors review the present codes of several countries in which snow loads must be taken into consideration in building design, the major part of the paper describes the results of research conducted in Canada and the USSR relating to the calculation of predicted snow loads. Because these two countries are hit by severe winters, they experience more serious problems than most other countries in this respect.
