AbstractThis report briefly describes a numerical simulation of laboratory experiments related to ice-propeller blade impact. The analysis is based on the approach developed by Varsta (1983) to model ice impact problems. The finite element method is used to calculate linear elastic, three dimensional stresses in ice. Loads are determined by incorporating an anisotropic failure criterion.
