SubjectAcoustics
AbstractAn increasingly important noise problem is the design of buildings to provide adequate sound insulation from outdoor noises, such as aircraft, rail, and road vehicles. As part of its work in this field, the Division has been assisting Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation in the development of guidelines for site planning and housing construction in the vicinity of airports, railways, and major roadways. This report, in addition to dealing with a specific problem of road and rail noise, forms a valuable and timely example against which the general guidelines currently under development can be assessed.
