AbstractThis paper gives an overview of three topics related to sound insulation in buildings. The first project included laboratory and field measurements of sound insulation against aircraft noise. As well as various technical papers, the project produced software to help in the design of adequate sound insulation. In a second project, re-analysis of survey results allowed the development of a rational basis for sound insulation goals for walls between adjacent homes. In the third part of this paper the need for new research to develop improved methods of rating impact sound insulation is discussed.
