AbstractA criterion for controlling the construction of an ice platform has been proposed in terms of constant heat deficit at a position near the surface of the built-up ice. Based on this criterion for construction and the relation between meteorological variables and the heat flux released from the surface towards the atmosphere, a time period for a single flooding-and-freezing cycle has been estimated. A chart has been constructed for the time period in relation to meteorological variables.
