AbstractResearchers in NRC-IRC's Building Envelope and Structure program have developed new innovative apparatus to evaluate the short- and long-term insulation capacity of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) for building envelopes. Called a vacuum guarded hot plate, this apparatus meets a growing requirement in the insulation field to characterize vacuum insulation core materials. It is the first of its kind in Canada, and one of only a handful in the world.
