AbstractThis paper deals with the temperature control of hot-poured sealants for the sealing of pavement cracks to delay degradation and extend pavement service life. The work investigated the sealant temperature control and temperature variations during typical installations and its affect on sealant properties and performance. Sealant temperatures were measured at various points in three common kettles during sealant installations and compared to true sealant temperatures and recommended application temperatures. The paper includes recommendations for improving on-site temperature control.
