AbstractThe wave loads on an offshore structure depend upon the size and shape of the structure and upon the incident wave characteristics. For a large structure, diffraction effects might be important. The purpose of this report is to present the results of computations, using linear diffraction theory, of the forces and moments acting on a gravity base structure (GBS) prototype simulated by a vertical, surface piercing cylinder in open sea, in a wide range of long crested regular waves. The results include the wave diffraction patterns and tables of forces and moments coefficients. The graphs of the wave diffraction patterns presented in this report, when compared to published results clearly show that some authors have difficulties with these calculations.
