SubjectManholes
AbstractThis paper presents a new technology for reducing the frost heave of pavement around sanitary and storm sewer manholes ? a costly problem for all cold climate-cities. The technology makes use of heat in the effluent and heat in the soil located deep around the manholes. The paper presents the results of trials successfully conducted during the winter of 1998-99 in Ottawa, Canada on four manholes and one control manhole.
