AbstractCurrent trends in the architecture of office buildings are to curtain wall systems with large transparent areas. One effect of this increasing use of glass is that the solar energy absorbed and transmitted by the transparent sections is a major component of the building cooling load. In this paper, the heat gain resulting from the window in a typical office module, calculated by the ASHRAE GUIDE method, is compared with the cooling load associated with the window, computed by an electronic analog computer.
