AbstractDifferent methods are described for determining the dynamic Young's and dynamic shear moduli of foamed plastics in the range of 0.1 to 100 cps - for harder substances up to 1000 cps. In estimating the elastic modulus on short cylindrical specimens with attached end surfaces the influence of the shape of the specimen for a given Poisson ratio is considered theoretically and tested experimentally. The results obtained on a series of different materials can be explained in terms of a simple model for closed and open mesh foamed material.
