AbstractVolcanic ash damages aircraft engine components,thus having a significant impact on engine performance, flight safety and maintenance costs. This paper discusses the properties of volcanic ash and their influence on engine components, as well as some potential protective coatings that may mitigate the impact of volcanic ash.
