AbstractThe rate constant, kc, for cyclization of the 5-hexenyl radical to the cyclopentylmethyl radical has been measured from -45 to -85° by an epr spectroscopic technique. It can be represented by log (kc/-1) = (10.7 ± 1.0) - (7.8 ±1.0)/θ, where θ = 2.3RT kcal/mol. Extrapolation of this equation yields kc = 1 × 105 sec-1 at 25°, in excellent agreement with an earlier estimate.
