AbstractMembers of the Division served on the site survey team which carried out extensive investigations in 1954 in the Mackenzie River delta area in the search for a new site for the settlement of Aklavik, N.W.T. Much information on site conditions and terrain features at East Three (as it was then referred to) was collected prior to and following the selection of the present townsite of Inuvik in August 1954. The results of these investigations, which are of interest to engineers, are summarized in this paper and include observations on soil and permafrost conditions, depth of thaw, ground temperatures and general terrain features. It is hoped that it will be of use in future planning for any proposed expansion at the site.
