AbstractThis digest describes three types of domestic chimneys, outlines the basic principles of chimney operation and the functions that a chimney must provide, and describes some common chimney problems with possible solutions. This subject is of current interest because the recent trend to convert furnaces from fuel oil to natural gas or to add wood- burning heaters has increased the potential for chimney problems.
