AbstractThe carbonation of calcium hydroxide has been re-investigated under thermal and X-ray diffraction methods of analysis. The crystal size and morphology of Ca(OH)2 vary with the method of preparation, which also affects the rate and mechanisms of the carbonation reaction. This is also dependent upon the relative humidity established prior to carbonation. The form of the thermograms is described and the nature of the changes responsible for the peaks discussed.
