AbstractLiterature pertaining to fundamental studies of the operation of the graphite furnace is replete with contradictory observations, conclusions and models. Two such aspects, the interpretation of Arrhenius activation energy parameters derived from signal transients and the partial pressure of oxygen in the furnace are considered in some detail.
