AbstractThe use of computational analysis to predict building egress during emergency situations has been steadily increasing in recent years. However, there is a general lack of data for use in computational egress models, and there are no benchmarks against which to test the predictive capability of the computational egress models. As a result, how well these models are able to predict a priori the time to egress a building is generally unknown, as are those variables that have the most significant impact on the predicted outcomes. To begin addressing the issues of evaluating the predictive capability of egress models, and the uncertainty and variability associated with the models and the available data, a three-year research effort is underway. The study methodology and preliminary results are presented.
