AbstractThis paper examines the natural supply of outside air to Quebec City dwellings and examines the concentration of contaminants for various occupancy scenarios. Using local weather data and measured envelope leakage data the requirement for additional mechanical ventilation to meet existing standards is assessed. The contaminant concentrations are compared to a mechanical system delivering the fresh air at rates prescribed in the model national building code.Additionally the energy implications of excessive infiltration and additional mechanical ventilation are quantified.
