AbstractThe interaction of aliphatic alcohols with portland cement paste, C3S paste, and CSH is assessed by surface area measurements, pore structure determinations, X-ray diffraction analysis, thermal analysis, and helium inflow measurements. The implications of modifications to the microstructure of the cement systems following treatment with the alcohols are discussed.
