AbstractThis paper discusses the results of tests to failure on eccentrically loaded clay brick prisms (93 mm thick, six courses, stack-bonded) and concrete block prisms (140 mm thick, two courses, stack-bonded). The blockwork prisms had both full and face-shell mortar bedding, and load was applied at the same eccentricity top and bottom (single curvature) at nominal values, in terms of thickness, of 0, t/ 12, t/6 and t/3. Elastic and ultimate load design methods used in structural masonry codes are also discussed.
