AbstractReaction times of young adult subjects to luminous increments of various contrast were obtained at wo adaptation levels. Functions characterising the data are consistent with electrophysiological recordings from cortical neurons and from the general contrast response pattern presented in other psychophysical studies. These functions help to detail some of the emerging principles of visual performance based on visual response time, and may be useful to practioners interested in predicting the speed of performing realistic tasks.
