SubjectAir flow/Wind pressure
AbstractDraft, efficiency, and friction loss records obtained with masonry chimneys of three different heights were compared with previous records and with calculations based on model tests. The non-isothermal friction losses were found to be far greater than isothermal losses due to natural convection effects. The effect of low wind speeds over the chimney top was also found to be considerable. Similar wind effects were found in model tests and this indicates that wind effects for chimneys can be treated separately from steady-state performance and studied using models.
